We created a short documentary told through the perspectives of women in Wambiti, filmed during the dry season to show daily realities and change over time. The story follows families who helped build a community-owned sand dam and now grow food, earn income and keep girls in school. We paired intimate interviews with observational footage and a cinematic visual style, and delivered:
Social cutdowns and graphics with quotes and key messages
A three-minute core film and two vertical social videos
A suite of photography and B-roll for future use
Change
Frontline Voices is a storytelling initiative that shares how locally led solutions help communities face extreme weather. For this chapter, the Howden Foundation wanted a film that showed how sand dams are transforming life for women and girls in drought-hit Kenya, and how partner funding supports long-term resilience. The brief asked for an honest, people-first story that connects daily life to a clear climate solution.
Makers
We enlisted a Kenyan production team who worked closely with Africa Sand Dam Foundation and community leaders to shape the narrative and build trust with contributors. Their on-the-ground experience guided shot lists, interviews and access, ensuring a respectful process and an edit grounded in local voice and context.
Impact
The film reframes water scarcity as a solvable challenge and shows the ripple effects of access to water: food security, time reclaimed, girls back in school and rising household income. It highlights the role of Sand Dams Worldwide and Africa Sand Dam Foundation in enabling community ownership and climate-smart agriculture. The story strengthens fundraising and policy engagement by giving donors and partners a clear picture of how simple, sustainable technology can power lasting change.
